A half-length weaver in a cap, in profile facing right. One hand holds the threads, the other reaches along the loom; the woven cloth shows pale in the foreground against the dark room. In early February 1884 Van Gogh wrote to Theo: “The last study that I made is the figure of a man sitting in the loom on his own, the bust and the hands.” The editors of the letters consider this most probably that painting.
